Yesterday, the Rhinos named Peter Amos as the new head coach of the women's team. Amos is a 1992 graduate of Houghton College and has W-League experience with the New York Power where he was a part owner and assistant coach from 1996-1998. Amos also served as the head coach of Nyack College Women’s Select Team from 1996 to 1998 and led the Warriors to two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Titles.
Most recently, Amos has coached with the men's team at his alma mater, as well as assisting with the U-12 girls team for the Buffalo United Soccer Club.
Comings and going with the Rhinos
Saint John Fisher grad Justin Dell has left Rhinos camp. Head coach Laurie Calloway is attempting to get him on either the Harrisburg City Islanders or the New Hampshire Phantoms of the USL 2nd Division where he can gain more experience, much like current Rhino Chad Severs gained with Harrisburg.
Joining the Rhinos in camp is Ghanian forward/midfielder Ebenezer Abbey. Abbey was in camp with the Virginia Beach Mariners and last played with Bighndoung FC in Viet Nam.
The Rhinos continue their preseason schedule today at 4:30pm when they will take on USL 1st Division foes Miami FC in Boca Raton, Florida.
US lineup changes for Guatemala
The US has returned Tim Howard, Carlos Bocanegra, and Oguchi Onyewu to their EPL clubs and Brian Carroll to DC United ahead of tomorrow night's friendly versus Guatemala at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
Defenders Frankie Simek and Jay DeMerit are expected to make their USMNT debuts tomorrow evening and longtime veteran Kasey Keller is expected to get the start in goal. If Keller does start it will be his 97th appearance for the USMNT and will bring him within three of the all-time US record for national team appearances by a goalkeeper which is currently held by Tony Meola.
Tony Meola rips Arena and the Red Bulls after being shown the door
Tony Meola has never pulled any punches and this time he hands out some advice to the Red Bulls: Start doing things the right way before thinking about winning titles.
Some may say it's merely sour grapes after the way Meola was shown the door. However, a lot of what Meola says has been coming from a variety of sources around the Red Bulls lately and perhaps it's time the organization started listening.
Meola also questioned the way Bruce Arena communicated with his players. Meola said he was surprised the way Arena handled things via e-mails given their long history together through the USMNT.
Montreal ties Honduras 1-1 in preseason action
Former Rhino Charles Gbeke set up former Atlanta Silverback Fabian Dawkins in the 10th minute to give Montreal the tie.
Let's hope that offensive production isn't something that Montreal can improve upon this season. Everyone should expect that they'll be solid defensively despite the losses of players like Greg Sutton and Adam Braz to Toronto FC.
Ives Galarcep's diary from the US-Ecuador match
There is some quality stuff including the over/under on how many goals Eddie Johnson will score during the 2007 MLS season.
