Dominant Dynamo advance in USOC
Not only did Pat Onstad get a clean sheet in Houston's 3-0 win over FC Dallas in the US Open Cup Quarterfinals yesterday. But, he also got an assist on Houston's second goal by Alejandro Moreno. Sure, FC Dallas' Ole defense helped the Dynamo out, but it is an assist!
The other interesting note from the match is that it was the FC Dallas debut for T&T international goalkeeper Shaka Hislop. It will be interesting to see how quickly Hislop can get acclimated to MLS play and if he'll be a difference maker for FC Dallas down the stretch or not.
Lynx help out the Rhinos
The Toronto Lynx continued their string of 1-1 draws against top USL 1st clubs at home last night when the Montreal Impact came to town.
Toronto took the lead in the 48th minute when Jamie Dodds took a penalty that was saved by Greg Sutton and then scored on the rebound. Montreal tied the game in the minute off of a Ze Roberto header.
Ex-Rhino Kirk Wilson did make the trip to Toronto as he took a leave of absence and returned home to Des Moines, Iowa with his family.
The tie puts Montreal 5 points clear of the Rhinos in first place with Rochester holding a game in hand.
Lilly back with Team USA for match with China on Sunday
Ryan Names 18-Player Roster to Face China on Aug. 27 at Toyota Park
Veteran forward Kristine Lilly is back after being away for the US' last two matches. Angela Hucles is also being added to the roster for this match.
On the injury front, Marci Miller was hurt last week in training and is being replaced by Joanna Lohman who is being named to her first US Women's National Team roster since the 2001 Algarve Cup.
As usual, Rochester's Abby Wambach was named to the roster.
Some news on a stadium out of Kansas City
OP will consider subsidizing Wizards stadium
Wizards owner Lamar Hunt has said he'll entertain out-of-town offers if he can't find a local buyer by year-end. The buyer would need to provide a stadium.
I'm surprised that someone in Kansas City hasn't started throwing around the threat of the Wizards moving to Rochester yet in an attempt to speed up the process of getting a stadium deal done.
Another hurdle in Salt Lake?
RSL deal? Not so fast, schools say of tax plan
Corroon stands by support of RSL soccer deal
The drama in Salt Lake over the stadium deal appears to be far from over even after Real Madrid helped with the groundbreaking ceremony almost two weeks ago. Apparently not everyone that is being asked to kick into the pot has been in on the deal.
I would say that I'm shocked, but I'm not.
Real Salt Lake calls off the hunt for Beasley
Acquiring Beasley will have to wait
It
never really appeared to be close to happening, but now it appears
official that DeMarcus Beasley will not be headed back to MLS this
season. Beasley has missed the entire preseason with PSV due to a
hamstring injury and he's trying to work his way back onto the PSV
bench for starts.
