Scott Palguta channels his inner Landon Donovan and the Rhinos get 2nd half goals from Chad Severs and Ryan Wileman to defeat Miami FC 3-2 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida yesterday.
The good news is that Diallo, Wileman, and Severs provided some second half offense. The bad news is that there was that Miami FC was able to get a breakaway goal late in a match with the Rhinos up by 2 goals. The Rhinos had troubles killing games last year and it seems like something that may still be an issue.
Looking back and looking forward with the USMNT
This Is American Soccer.com and Yanks-Abroad.com look back at the US win over Ecuador on the weekend. There is also a lot of news ahead of the US-Guatemala match that will be on ESPN2 at 9pm this evening. Heath Pearce has been scratched from the US lineup with a bone bruise in his foot and Brian Ching has been returned to the Houston Dynamo.
US Soccer.com has a cool podcast with some very interesting takes from Bob Bradley, Landon Donovan, and Kasey Keller. Donovan reacts cooly to Eric Wynalda's take about Donovan wanting to be with the Galaxy when Beckham comes stateside as opposed to playing for the US in both the Gold Cup and Copa America. Keller also talks a lot about coming to MLS and why he's disappointed with how MLS has backed off from trying to bring him home. Why a team isn't jumping at the chance to bring Keller home is beyond me. Especially a team like Columbus that has a dire need in goal.
Carrieri in the news again
The Cary News has a nice proifile on the former Rhino and current Carolina RailHawks midfielder.
Personally, I can't wait for the RailHawks to come to town this year.
MLS News
Big Apple Soccer.com is reporting that MLS and Aston Villa have agreed on a transfer fee for Colombian forward Juan Pablo Angel. Now all that is left is for the New York Red Bulls and Angel to agree to a contract and it would appear that the club will have it's second designated player and potentially the finisher up top that Arena has been looking for all pre-season.
The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Dynamo expect to start the season without a jersey sponsor. But, they could get a deal done mid-season. With only four teams with jersey sponsor deals announced to date, it's interesting that the new revenue source is taking as long as it has to be tapped into by a majority of the MLS clubs.
FC Dallas is close to adding Argentive defender/midfielder Pablo Richetti. Richetti could join fellow South American newcomer Juan Carlos Toja in the central midfield for FC Dallas.
The latest on the Virginia Beach Mariners
Last evening's preseason game was cancelled. But, they have yet to cancel their preseason game slated for Saturday.
USL Executive Vice President Tim Holt is in Virginia Beach and is trying to get the situation sorted out. He met with a local group in an attempt to get a new ownership group in place as soon as possible. But, who knows if things can get solidified in the 48 hour timeframe that Holt wants to gets things done in.
With the Mariners opener less than three weeks away, the clock is certainly ticking...........
