In a move that many has expected for a while, the USL announced today that there will no longer be a USL 1st & 2nd Divisions and starting in 2011 there will just be the USL Pro League.
It will be interesting to see how this affects the whole USL vs NASL battle for control of pro soccer in the US below MLS.
With USSF D-2 Pro League teams in Austin and Rochester attending the USL meetings in Florida to hear the USL's sales pitch, we are up for another fun off season!
News & Notes:
- Austin is definitely not in the NASL boat today.
- Carolina is, though.
- AC St Louis may be back in the game.
- Rhinos midfielder Alfonso Motagalvan is reviewing boots for Soccer Cleats 101.com. His first review is of the Nike CTR360 Maestri.
- This reference to Teitur Thordarson's attacking style cracked me up. Vancouver is in the bottom half of the USSF D2 Pro League in goals scored per game.
- Montreal is prepping for 2012.
- Tampa Bay has picked up Justin Morrow on loan from San Jose.
- SBI.net 's power rankings are out for this week. I won't argue Austin at #1 this week.
- Chivas USA is starting the work towards a stadium, San Jose has picked a designer for their stadium, and Arsenal has a siiiiiick stadium.
